In my presentation slides introducing my research work on hand pose estimation, I usually invoke the movie The Minority Report to illustrate my point. It is like the epitomy of how the hand could be used naturally to interact with computer (or robotic) systems.
Kinect has made The Minority Report type of interaction possible without the use of gloves or other cumbersome equipment. Of course, accuracy may be a problem, but this is a very good start.
